I understand what you are saying about " comments with gratuitous swearing, insults, sexual harrassment, spam [mostly spam], off-topic posts looking to use the blog as a selling point etc. etc. etc.". I would never make comments like that because they interfer with whatever ideas I am trying to convey. My point is that it is indeed a slippery slope from swearing to contradictory ideas. We need to be careful everywhere!

Hey Mark, I would describe it as an "open space-ish" event. We are going to introduce the open space concepts at the introduction and allow the "Law of Two Feet" to manage the process as much as possible. I suspect many of the presenters are not familiar with the Open Space process and may be looking to just "do a presentation." We are not going to mediate that process though, and there will be plenty of space to allow side-conversations ala Open Space proper during the event.

In short, if an issue or concern draws your interest, and it is not on the programme, you will have the ability to post another presentation in the marketplace on the day (given limitations of time and space).

As an Unconference, is this following OpenSpace or similar group process forms? Ie, how will this be facilitated, and what kind of container created? At the moment it seems that it's 1) attend a session, 2) which starts with brief presentation by session convenor, 3) discuss, 4) go to next session.

Hey Norman. I am not sure that the message of the comment is that we know better than the reading audience about what it considers to be appropriate. We are saying that an authority (ie. the people with the passcode to this blog) will decide what is appropriate. That doesn't mean we are going to arbitrarily moderate comments that disagree or criticize something we say, but the people who have access to this blog [which will change over time] will makes choices about what comments appear or do not appear on this blog. The message is just fair warning. I'm sorry you find this disturbing.

I'd say that comments with gratuitous swearing, insults, sexual harrassment, spam [mostly spam], off-topic posts looking to use the blog as a selling point etc. etc. etc. have a risk of being moderated. As the podcamp-organizing baton gets passed to other volunteers, the rules may change. In the end, this blog is not an unconference, but a tool to help organize and promote an unconference. That means the organizers get to make choices about how things are going to work.

I find the blurb below a bit disturbing in that it implys that a highter authority exists that knows more than the reading audience about what it considers to be appropriate. It is a disturbing trend of cyberspace as well.
